GT — Gel Time Measurement

Determines the gel/cure time and curing characteristics of thermosetting powder coatings and resins using the heated precision plate method.

The precision plate surface temperature control and integrated stopwatch of Coesfeld Geltest instruments allow the user to determine repeatable and comparable gel times. Using a measuring spoon, the test substance is placed in the polished hollow of the temperature-controlled heating plate, and the built-in stopwatch is started at the same time. The sample is stirred evenly with a stirring needle until no further resin threads form when the needle is lifted. At that point the clock is stopped and the time is read in seconds. The measured time elapsed until this resin state is reached is called the gel time.
