Calcium Hydride (CaH₂)
A reagent used in Aquatrac moisture measurement instruments to determine the moisture content of plastic samples. Aquatrac's measurement principle relies on a chemical reaction: water molecules in the plastic sample are driven out of the sample by heat and vacuum, then react with calcium hydride (CaH₂); the amount of H₂ gas released is equal to the amount of water in the sample.
Particle Size and Consumption
The particle size of the reagent (CaH₂) used directly affects consumption. Approximately 1000–1200 tests can be carried out with the 250-gram powder-form CaH₂ supplied with the instrument.
